Sunday afternoon Hazel and I went to a falconry display at the place du marche of our town.
It was a wet and windy afternoon, but both of us really enjoyed it.
I put down the camera for most of the show, as the birds were moving pretty fast - but here are some of the photos I did take. No pics of the falcon though, which was definitely the highlight - so agile! He was only out for a short while - the guy explained that due to the winds, he was a bit concerned that the falcon would climb high to get the right "air" and get lost or worse.
Before the flying bit, the guy brought out a few birds to pat and did a bit of Q&A.
Hazel stood right up close for the first bird, an owl called Simon. And so when he stretched his wings and flapped a little, he got her on the head. Nutty thought this was hilarious, but stood right back for the following birds all the same.
This is Simon "the whacker".
Here's Simon coming right for us!
At the end of the show, all the kids lined up and formed a "train" for the bird to fly over. Hazel didn't quite get why that was a fun thing to do.
But the next bit, involved jumping up and down in a circle and waving hands in the air, that was a different story.
